Quads and High Pocket Pairs

Last night I played way too much poker. I sat down at Ultimate Bet because I want to use up the bonuses I have over there. Once I get all of my bonuses, I’ll withdraw the money and put it into Party Poker when they have their next deposit bonus. Have I mentioned that UB’s bonus system sucks?! Playing .50/1 at UB, I get back about $1/hour in bonus. Playing $1/2, it jumps to $3/hour because the pace of play is faster. At Party Poker, I only had to play about an hour or so to get a full $20 bonus!
I started out playing .50/1 last night and stuck to my SSH game plan, except for a few leaks here and there. Lost my fair share. Time for a break. When I signed back on I decided to try the $1/2 table and stick to my strategy. I played for a couple of hours and did well for the cards I was getting. I just couldn’t get a hand, or when I did, someone with 3 outs always hit their flop. I ended up ahead for the session at $1/2 and took a good chunk out of my bonus dollars.
The theme for the night was seeing quads and losing with my high pocket pairs. I managed to get quads twice, but I saw 4 of a kind at least 6 other times throughout the night. It was crazy. I half expected to see someone get a royal flush two hands in a row the way cards were falling. Whenever I looked down to find K K , Q Q , or J J , the flop always seemed to bring an A . My hands were like magnets for those damn Aces! Frustrating, but that’s why we play the game.
After all, poker is one big long session…right?
