WBPT V Recap
First another big thanks to Iggy for setting up WBPT V. Also a quick note to mention that there was a celebrity at the tables. It was Wil Wheaton, who you may know from his roles in the series Star Trek: The Next Generation. Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, I can talk about the tournament…
After learning about the $20 NLHE tournament for poker bloggers and their readers, I was undecided if I would try it out. After all, I figured I would be dead money with my limited No-Limit experience in what would prove to be a quality field of 133 poker players. A few days before the tournament, I started an account on Poker Stars and deposited $50. Thursday rolled around and I made the choice to play. I figured the $20 would be a good investment because it would get me a chance to get my name out there and drive traffic to my poker blog. I surely didn’t expect to make the cut or win any money. I was looking at the tournament as an investment.
Me and Poker: A History
Earlier this week I had been thinking it would be good to do a post about my history playing poker. After the big win last night in the poker blogger tournament, there isn’t a better time for it, so here it is…
I’m Shocked!
Tonights Poker Blog Tournament
133 poker players
$20+$2 entry fee
$798 for 1st place
Wow, I can’t even express how I feel right now. Amazing. I’ve never played better poker in my life. I won’t be able to sleep a wink, but I’m tired as hell from staying up last night to watch the Red Sox, so I have to try and get some sleep. Tomorrow I’ll post a complete recap of my first ever big tourney win. For now I have to thank Iggy for putting it all together. Maybe now that I won, he’ll finally pimp my blog. It was a great tournament with some of the best poker players the blogging world has to offer. I really don’t even belong in their company. Congrats to Todd who battled with me heads up at the end and finished 2nd. He started out a short stack, but was killing me and took the lead several times. He’s a much better player than I am, but I got the cards at the right times.
I’m off to bed…sweet dreams!
Blog Tourney

Play Your Own Game
Yesterday I was browsing around the 2+2 forums, reading all kinds of advice. From a few threads that I read, it looked like I wasn’t playing enough hands from early position. I’ve been following the preflop recommendations from SSH for playing on a tight table (3-5 people to the flop on average) and things have been going really well. But what the 2+2 people were saying is that you should be playing hands like A♥X♥ in early position. Hmmm, maybe I’m missing out on some extra wins by not playing some of these hands up front.
Diamonds In The Bluff
Saw this in a signature on a forum somewhere… “Whoever said diamonds are a girl’s best friend was not a man playing poker.”
A Career in Poker
Iggy has quit his job for a career in poker. Best of luck (even though it’s not about luck) to one of the leaders in the poker blogging community.
Attitude on the Felt
I’ve been thinking recently about a player’s attitude at the poker table. Obviously some styles work better for some than others and each person displays their own attitude. I say “display” because a lot of people might be putting on this attitude simply for the poker table; just another bluff if you will. But does any one particular attitude work better than others?
Royals All Around
Witnessed 2 royal flushes tonight…on the same table!
