Poker Stars Deep Stack Tournaments

Posted on October 29, 2005

No matter how tempted you might be to join one of these…DON’T DO IT!!

I made the first mistake and didn’t realize it was a limit tournament. Talk about dragging out online poker play. I just busted in 48th place out of 664 after 7 hours of play! Seven fucking hours! It was $20+2 to enter and I was paid $33.20. A whole fucking $11.20 for 7 fucking hours! It was not even close to being fun.

Don’t touch these tournaments with a 10 foot pole. Warn your friends, family, and neighbors.

On the bright side I made another cash finish in a big field tournament.

    Ouch! 7 hours?!?

Deep Stacks and Limit are ridiculous.

Even worse…the blinds only go up every 30 minutes.

I know when we play online it’s hard to get used to these types of tournaments. In any case, I think playing these can help anyones game improve, especially if you are playing a live tourney with similar blind structures.

I agree. They can help your game and they definitely force you to be patient.

But…a 600+ player field taking 6 hours to hit the money spots is ridiculous. The beauty of online plays is that you can play tournaments a lot quicker than live because so many more hands are played per hour. This tournament was everything but quick.

Nick you missed the boat on the Deep Stack tourneys. They were set up by Poker Stars to give players the chance to play in a more traditional style of play. If you want a quicker game then play in the turbo tourneys. I’m sorry you weren’t paying attention and signed up for a limit tourney. Thats your fault not the tourneys. If you can’t play in a Deep Stack tourney then how are you going to play in the WSOP? That takes 10-15 hours a day for 3 days just to make the money. Give it another try with the no limit tourney and you might enjoy it more. When you are ready to play some real poker look up Kingwalter at pokerstars.

When I play online I’m not looking to play a 3 day tournament! I can play long days no problem. Done it before. Sat a 14 hour session in San Diego, then jumped on a plane, flew back to Michigan at 4am, and never slept on the flight.

I admitted I made a mistake on not realizing it was a limit tournament. If it was no-limit it would never have taken that long.

I’ll pass on the turbo tourneys…those are little more than a lottery.

When did I say I was going to play in the WSOP? I’d be throwing away $10,000 when I don’t stand a chance against those players.

I guess my point was that you signed up for a tournamant designed to take 10-12 hours to complete (no limit takes that long too) and then complained that it took too long. That is like registering for a turbo and then complaining that it goes to fast. I suppose you’d be upset that you can’t order a Big Mac at Pizza Hut too.

If a tournament was designed to take 10-12 hours there is no way they would only give you 5 minutes breaks every hour. And no way a no-limit tournament would take that long. I played in a 550 person no-limit tourney a week or two ago and took 2nd…it lasted less than 5 hours. No way that doubling your starting chip count is going to double the length of the tournament. Have you seen people play no-limit online? It’s an all-in fest.

I don’t even like Big Macs and what does Pizza Hut have to do with poker.

The purpose of my post was simply to warn people that these tournaments take longer than they should. You could seriously fold everything but AA, KK, QQ, and AK and survive for at least 4 or 5 hours. That’s poker?

Go back and read the post…

I made the first mistake and didn’t realize it was a limit tournament.

Again you are more concerned with your arguement than listening to the other persons opionion. I guess before you post info all over for people to see you should check your facts. PS No Limit Holdem deep stack tourneys that are full have all taken 10-12. You can check youself. They also more than doubled the chip counts and double the blind increase time. It was designed to be a very long tourney. Next, I guess I assumed you were an intelligent person…my mistake. If you can’t understand the analogy of the fast food to this situation then there is nothing I can do.

  10. Nick Momrik on November 8th, 2005 2:24 pm

Oh…now you add in a full tournament. My tournament had less than half the full amount and took longer than half your time estimate. I’ve rarely seen any online tournaments fill up unless except for freerolls. Check your facts!

I’m done arguing with you. This is my web site and I can say whatever the hell I want.

You’re obviously the smarter person (or so you say), so why keep coming back here to argue with me if I’m wrong? Go away now…bug someone else with your childish comments.
