Grinding

Posted on March 15, 2006

Once again I’ve gone back to grinding the low limit games at Party. A couple of times in the last week I’ve hit up the $1/2 tables, running 8 at a time. Gotta love the dual monitor setup! This is my favorite way to whip through one of their bonuses, but it also helps to get my game back into focus. I have fun playing like this and it’s not very difficult to keep up with all 8 tables as long as they’re all 10 seat tables.

January and February weren’t good poker months for the bankroll and I was losing interest in the game. That always seems to happen when I move up limits. I get a case of FPS (Fancy Play Syndrome) and I lose my mind. At least I know I’ll never have what it takes to be a poker pro, which is a good thing.

EIGHT games at once?!? I can handle two, tops, and even then I don’t feel like I’m doing my game a favor, attention-wise.

What happens when you’ve got to act in three or four games at once?

Sometimes you have to quickly catch up, but Party gives you 30 seconds or so to act. Most of the decisions are pretty straight forward at the $1/2 tables. I just recently started playing 8 though. I played 4 quite often for the last year or so. It’s all about how comfortable you are with the game and stakes. I like the groove I can get into playing these low limit games and having 8 at a time going. It makes it really hard to go on tilt this way as well because you don’t have time to think about that bad beat. There’s another table waiting for your attention. One thing I do is mark the fold button as soon as I know I’m not going to play the hand. This saves a lot of time. My VP$IP is usually around 17% so most of the time I’m only involved in a hand at one or two of the tables. The others are all easy folds.
